about

Imagine you take two friends--a bartender and a mid-level retail manager. Lock them in a room with a pile of asbestos, twelve ten-penny nails, a jar of mayonnaise, and a 100 amp circuit breaker and don't let them out until they design a workable trebuchet.

A Stockpile of Tepid Hits takes that concept and raises the bar. Two guys, a smattering of musical gear, and clouds of confusion blend together to form Squid1969. The outcome if which is as dangerously eccentric as a French projectile-throwing apparatus.

In 1999. Björ6n Oranj and Chris Campbell gathered up anything they owned that could be considered a musical instrument and placed them in a dining room in St. Paul, MN. After the three sampling keyboards and three drum machines were plugged in, they hit record. Over the next year they released two albums [Liquid Smoke & Cotton Candy Suit] plus one e.p. [Dentition of a Six-Year-Old Child]. During the process, they enlisted engineer/producer/musician Bosky Rumbluffer to assist with the project. A Stockpile of Tepid Hits collects all three releases and repackages them chronologically as a 20th anniversary edition.

After Squid1969, Björ6n Oranj went on to form The Halcyon Brothers with Bosky Rumbluffer, was part of the duo Squinting Matador with Ed Hoffman and releases solo material. Chris Campbell creates dark ambient soundscapes as The Creeping Man. All three Squid1969 members are part of the art collective This Isn't Just a Cult which records as a band, produces a podcast of the same name and creates art both visually and in the written form. about

SQUID1969 Saint Paul, Minnesota

Go back to 1999 with Björ6n Oranj, Christopher Campbell & Bosky Rumbluffer. Take a janky crock pot and Insert: two synthesizers, one garage sale drum machine, one 4-track cassette recorder, one circular saw, one pint of confusion, a tbsp of anger, and 1/8 tsp of talent. Cover and set on high for two weeks. Do not stir. Remove noxious slurry. Add sulfur. Set on fire. You now have Squid1969. ... more
